Klondike Kate's

This establishment, one of the oldest in Newark (coming in at a close second to Deer Park) is one of the best places to go on any given night. As a result of Newark lacking a huge bar scene, Kate's has come to be known as one of the best bars along Main Street. Broke college students can go and order 1/2 price Nachos on Tuesdays, parents can take their little kiddies to eat for free on Wednesdays, and any person with a hearty appetite can go and eat 1/2 price wings on Thursday. Basically, every night at Kate's is catered to some specific group. Even the under 21 crowd can get Nachos and stay and chat until the bar starts to fill up. Kate's is an incredible place to go, with their 3 dollar Skyy Vodka drinks and their alternating DJ schedule, you're always guarenteed a good time.

Bookstores:

Ah yes, the season has come upon us. School has begun and the bookstores are excited. Parents get to dish out their cash and students get to blow all of their hard earned money( which, to be quite honest, they could be spending on beer). Yes, this is Lieberman's and Delaware Book Exchange's favorite time of the year. Students are scrambling around Newark, last minute to find the text book that was sold out or the twenty-dollar agenda book that they will soon call their best friend. However, just a few clues to those of you who have been spending $500+ on books. As our dear Professor Brown has showed us- there are alternative options. (Amazon.com * one of the most beautiful dot coms out there.) Sorry Delaware Book Exhange, but you were just too expensive! I'd also like to extend an apology to Liebermans. I used to be partial to this wonderful establishment, until I met Amazon. Oh yes, while others in my classes spent around $500, I spent a mere $200- the glory of the internet! In short, ladies and gentlemen, Newark may have a few decent bookstores, but when you're looking for a deal on books, the internet is where it's at!

NEWARK, DELAWARE

Hello all and welcome to Tour de Newark!
I will be writing this semester about all
of the glorious bars, stores, and restaurants that make up the fine area that we call Newark. I'll introduce you to the best places to go, as well as clue you in on where to get the best of the best. Over 21? Bars are my specialty! As with most college students, you want to know where to go and where you'll have the most fun. Tune in each week and I'll let you know ;)

Iron Hill

IRON HILL BREWERY
I had the pleasure of going with my roommates to dinner the other night at Iron Hill Brewery. Although there are other locations, the Newark Iron Hill is among one of the best. Not only are they known for their exceptionally brewed beers, but their food is phenomenal too.

Two beers to try (assuming you are above the age of 21 wink, wink... nudge, nudge):
1.) Raspberry Wheat- just as good as it sounds, has a sweet berry flavor
AND
2.) Pig Iron Porter- slightly like a Guinness, a VERY dark beer

Appetizer must haves:
Hummus and their Nachos (surprisingly good competition for Kate's- if they offered half priced Nachos)

Dinner:
Blacked Tuna and any of their pizzas (Pizza is half priced on Thursdays)

Attention thirsty students: $2 rail drinks and beers on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as $1 shooters. You can't beat that:)

The atmosphere is not like that of the Balloon or Kate's, but slightly more relaxed. At least you can sit and chat with your friends for a bit, rather than shout over the blaring music that characterizes most Newark bars.
