Peddler's Liquor Mart

Upon walking into Peddler's in the College Square Shopping Center, I was immediately carded by five, anxious police officers in their "undercover" clothing. Unfortunately, Peddler's has been the subject of scrutiny under the Newark Police eye. The liquor store, located next to Pathmark, has recently been watched closely for selling to underage consumers. Despite issues with the law, Peddler's offers quite the variety when it comes to liquors and beers. For the broke 21- year- old, Peddler's offers $45 kegs of Natty light. Natty light is the essence of college party beer (not to mention high quality-just kidding) In other words, Peddler's is one of the top sellers when it comes to the consumption of students at the University of Delaware. Peddler's staff is also something to note. Cheerful and pleasant, they serve through all kinds of weather. (They were even open when students could trudge to the liquor store, but not to class in the snow!) Amidst the rising prices of gas, one of the employees even went as far to say, "Buy less gasoline, buy more liquor!" If you're a beer/liquor fanatic, bottoms up and check this store out. If you're not the drinking type- no problem, now you have more money for gas!

Peddler's Liquor Mart...where am I?

What do other have to say about Peddler's?

Post House

Picture this, you wake up Sunday morning and you walk down your steps at home. You find you grandmother cooking bacon and eggs for you in the kitchen and you can smell the fresh toast in the toaster oven. This is exactly what you will see when you enter the doors of the Post House. Around three to four white haired, rosy cheeked women pleasantly put together a well balanced meal for you in the am. Breakfast is without a doubt the specialty at this restaurant, however they do sell lunch and dinner. The restaurant itself is not very well up to date in architecture or style, but the food is some of the best found on Main Street. In reference to price, there's no need to empty your bank account. Post House is as cheap as you can get. You can get a breakfast special of two eggs (any style), choice of bacon or any meat, and home fries...All for the price of $4.99 (All with the loving care of a grandmother's touch). Next time you're on Main Street and Newark Bagel is closed, make sure you check out the Post House for a breakfast you can not beat!

Take me to Post House!

Flavor Clothing

Once upon a time, when the existing seniors at University of Delaware were itty bitty freshmen, Main Street used to have a few clothing stores on Main Street. Newark even had a Gap! Today, the streets of Newark are void of any apparel. Luckily, Main Street still has one clothing shop- the one and only Flavor! Flavor has been around for the past 10 years. Some may know them for their different style in clothing, some may know them for their accessories, and others know them for their "back room". Behind closed curtains, customers come from all around to buy their tobacco smoking products. Most girls and highly stylish men, however, can find the latest in denim at this diverse store. Flavor always seems have the newest styles in jeans. Flavors accessories include earrings, nose rings, and belly rings (among other various piercing-related items.) So next time you need a pair of jeans or something to wear out on the weekend and you don't feel like going to the mall, just make a quick stop at Flavor!

Perkin's Restaurant

For all of you who think I'm talking about the rinky dink restaurant in University's Perkin's Center, I'm not. You can't exactly use your flex points at this Perkin's- sorry everyone! The Perkin's I'm referring to is located on Kirkwood Highway in Newark, right by The Outback. "What's so great about Perkin's," you might ask. Well I'll tell you! If the normal breakfast were a Lean Cuisine, Perkin's breakfast would be considered the Hungry Man! What's great about Perkins is their portions. If you order an omellette, it comes with a side of three pancakes and hash browns. We're not talking little itty bitty pancakes here, we're talking pancakes the size of your head! No matter what you get at Perkin's, it is bound to come with about 2 sides AND enough to feed a small country. As for their service, it's a little bit creepy how nice they are. Once, when I went there for breakfast, I was just mentioning that I was thirsty and within the next few seconds, a glass of water appeared before me. I didn't even see the waiter coming! Their staff is without a doubt on top of things! Even if there are extremely long lines, there's never a long wait. Next time you're in the mood for a good breakfast, give Perkin's a try...but make sure to go with a hearty appetite.

Jake's Hamburgers

For all of you who enjoy the occasional burger, Jake's is the place to go. Located on 273 in Newark, this small establishment does not look as appealing as their burgers actually taste. There are not many places to sit, so most people order their food to go. On the downside, they do not have a drive-thru like McDonald's and Wendy's. What they lack in seating and drive-thru, they make up for in taste. Jake's burgers are known to be old- fashioned and are loaded with all the essentials (lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, ketchup)! Not into hamburgers? Jake's also has insanely delicious milkshakes and French fries. They also carry chicken sandwiches for you non-red meat eaters. If you are concerned about cost, there is no need. Jake's is comparable to fast food restaurants in price, but better in quality. Unbutton your pants, because you're going to need the room after eating at Jake's!
